How was Flutino designed?

I started asking Ed, my dentist, to make a cast of my lips shaped as if whistling. The cast itself would make sound when I blew through it. Wax prototypes followed, which revealed how precise the geometry had to be in order to work.

Then I used CAD to optimize the geometry systematically. Many prototypes were made by 3D printing and tested for playability. Rings were added after my sister Chari, who is a doctor, suggested it to keep players from swallowing it accidentally.
