What makes the sound?
The air, of course, but the precise details are a subject of research. In most wind instruments, the sound is produced by an air jet striking a solid edge or another air jet, but the flutino has no edges within the flow path.
What are those little rings?
Those rings are so you can attach a string and pull it out, should you swallow it in the excitement of music playing. You can also use them to wear your flutino as a pendant.
I'm blowing but it doesn't play
You may be blowing too hard. The correct blowing rate is about the same as when breathing normally. Partially closing your throat is also important. Whistling is not the same as blowing a candle.
Does a flutino work the same either way?
Flutino is designed to be reversible, and even to work the same whether you are blowing or drawing in air. But since sound production is very sensitive to geometry, sometimes small manufacturing differences make it play better in one particular direction. If your flutino is like this, just mark the preferred orientation so you can always have the best sound.
Can children play the flutino?
Sure they can, and likely better than adults, but don't give a flutino to a very young child if there is any chance that the child might swallow it.
Where can I buy a Flutino?
Right now we are preparing for a market test at a store in Chicago. Stay tuned for mail order and wider distribution.
Can I make my own flutino?
You can try, but be warned that it is only going to work if you get all the dimensions within a certain range that is quite narrow. You'll be able to see what those dimensions are once Flutino is awarded a patent. Hopefully we'll have it available for sale even before that happens.
